Who we are?
The Cerebral Palsy Society of Croatia is a non-profit, non-governmental and non-political organization for people with disabilities and their parents.
It was established in 1968, and since then continuously it has been providing activities based on the professional and scientific approach to cerebral palsy.
The purpose of the Society is to act on raising awareness about cerebral palsy and people with disability, as well as to their special needs, ensuring their legal, medical and social rights.
The society incorporates 35 regional societies, and counts over 4500 members altogether.
The Croatian Cerebral Palsy Society coordinates activities of regional societies of common interest with other national organizations of disabled people, and naturally represents their interests, under the national umbrella organization.
The Croatian Cerebral Palsy Society is a member the Croatian Union of Associations of Persons with Disabilities, the national top organization, which gathers national societies of people with different forms of disabilities.
It is also a member of the International Cerebral Palsy Society, London, UK.
The Croatian Cerebral Palsy Society has a rich publication activity, based on scientific approach to cerebral palsy, specifically about 40 published books that are used as university literature.
Furthermore, it has organized many symposiums and professional meetings on cerebral palsy.
In 2004 in cooperation with the International Cerebral Palsy Society, London, UK, the 1st International Symposium was held, with the auspices of the Croatian President in Pula, Croatia. It's topic was “Planning Better Lives for Adults with Cerebral Palsy”.
In 2001, the Croatian Cerebral Palsy Society declared the 5th of May as its National Day, and has been celebrating it since then. Our aim is to start a global campaign under motto “Celebral Palsy is Coming out of Shadow”.
In 2001, the Croatian Cerebral Palsy started publishing its journal “Glasnik” (Herald), in which all activities and problems of the associations are presented.
“Glasnik” has brought a great contribution to better understanding of cerebral palsy and its problems.
Mission:
The Croatian Cerebral Palsy Society is striving for the conditions that will ensure full implementation of the UN Convention, also ensuring equal opportunities for all disabled people and full recognition of their rights.
It also describes specific problems of our members, people with cerebral palsy.
Goals:
- Raise public awareness about cerebral palsy
- Create public opinion which is tolerant towards difference
- Create legal conditions and services which are ensuring equal opportunities for people with different kind of disabilities
- Enable people with disabilities to represent their own interest
Provide:
- Training and education of our members to represent their own interest (teaching self advocacy skills)
- Education and consulting the parents of the children with disability how to provide the best care for their children through informing and learning about different kind of disabilities and methods of dealing with them
- Publishing activities: Journal “Herald”, books and brochures about cerebral palsy
